Cardabilities Reveal Day for November 30

Hello friends,

Welcome to Cardabilities Reveal Day – sketch #44. Today’s sketch is so unique for me – I have never done an off the page rectangle card. (that’s what I’m calling it)…that’s why it’s a challenge right?

Here is the sketch:

What did I tell ‘ya – isn’t cool? I immediate thought of one of those trailers on the boardwalk selling mini donuts – you know the scalloped edge look like the ledge of trailer … so that’s what I created … had to go with the flow.

Except, I used Riley the moose baking and Heartfelt Creations window instead. Here he is:

I can’t begin to tell you how much I love Karan’s sketches. They are so interesting and unique and never fails to spark those creative juices!! Come take a look at what the other design team members are creating, and maybe you will be inspired to play along.

So fun!

Masculine Christmas Card

Welcome again to another Tuesday Throwdown challenge,

Today’s challenge is to make a Christmas card for men/boys. Talk about a challenge!! I have a hard enough time making a masculine card; now I have distinguish holidays cards as feminine and masculine!!

Alright, I’m pulling up my sleeves and digging into this challenge – and here is my thought process. Masculine = brown, green (no pink); minimal flowers or ribbon unless it’s in something masculine like burlap, canvas or pinstripes. I guess I should also try to skip the pearls and bling.

So here is my attempt:

Our prize sponsor this week is Dude Time Doodles. Come play along, I want to see how you make your masculine Christmas cards. Tree image is from Dude Time Doodles; sentiment is from Inky Antics, DPs are from Authentique Papers (calendar print) and Crate Paper (Pinstripes). Flower was die cut on burlap.

Have a great day!!

Crazy Hair Day …

Hi everyone,

Welcome to another CMC challenge this Thanksgiving week. No – it’s not my crazy hair day. It’s crazy hair day for today’s CMC Copic challenge – to COLOR HAIR IN UNUSUAL OR MULTI COLORS (so no browns, blonds, blacks or auburns)!! Use any image you want as long as they are colored with Copic Markers or Promarkers. Your card must also be newly created.

The Sponsor this week is Simply Betty Stamps.I just found out that her 17 yr old son is struggling with throat cancer.  She has lowered the price on her digis and is creating more to help raise money for medical care for her son.  It’s a terribly trying and sad time for her. I cannot image how terrified she much feel as a parent and how her son must be feeling. You can read about Betty’s story at her blog HERE. Please take some time to check out her digis – they are amazing to color with Copics, as I have discovered.

Here is my crazy hair card with Betty’s image on it.

Hope you are having a good Thanksgiving and family reunion.

Snow Angels

Welcome everyone …

Are you having snow yet? (at least for my friends in the northern hemisphere). Well, we are – and quite appropriately, Wags ‘n Whiskers (WnW) is having a Snow Angel Themed challenge this week – make a card using an angelic image.

One random participant will win a Free Wags ‘n Whiskers Rubber stamp! You don’t need to use a WnW image on your project to enter the challenge, but if you do, you will be entered into a 2nd drawing for a Free Wags ‘n Whiskers Digital Stamp!! Two chances to win!! If you are in need of a WnW design, click here for Rubber stamps, and here for Digis!

Here is my snow angel:

My designer papers are from Authentique Papers and my die cut is from Spellbinders.

My Unintentional Card – November PTI Blog Hop

Hi everyone,

When was the last time you cleaned out your stash of scrap papers and found a gem? Well, I have recently spent an hour just throwing out scraps way too small to use – whatever possessed me to keep a scrap paper a sliver wide behoves me.

Anyhow, guess what I found – these 2 negative die cut of a poinsetta (it’s so old I don’t even remember which project I used it for – it’s not on my blog – I’ve looked.)

Well, this is what I came up with:

What a gem! I love it – and it’s so easy to make to. My negative die cut is on PTI Stamper Select - that is the only cardstock I have in my house – I love that it’s so thick that a negative diecut stands up well on it and I also use it for my Copic coloring. It’s the best! I just stamped a simple sentiment, slap a DP from Authentique Paper behind and popped up the negative die cut and finished with a button also from my stash. It’s so my style – so I guess I’ll be making more of it for Arty Carty Handmade Cards.

And here is my inspiration for the card:

Have a fun day cleaning out your stash too – you never know what you’ll find.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I know, I know – Thanksgiving is not even over yet and I’m thinking of Christmas!!

Anyhow, Christmas was and is on my mind as I created this Christmas layout for Creative Vision Clear Stamps. This one actually stumped me a little – since I chose a sentiment stamp sets to work with. I was wonder how I would be creating an entire layout with just sentiments. But as I looked through the stamp set that Laura has given me, I discovered that her sentiment stamps are so versatile for many different forms of occasions. The one I used on my last Creative Vision blog hop post is from a Christmas set but I could actually use for all holiday seasons. And I actually found a very appropriate one for the picture I am using for the layout.

Here is a sketch I was working with:

I didn’t follow the sketch exactly but used it as a spring board for inspiration instead. I flipped the sketch vertically and flower border was my impetus for my Christmas tree cutout on my layout … the rest as they say is history. Here is my layout:

Don’t you think the sentiment is so appropriate to the photo – I had a chuckle when I saw that. The sentiment came from set CV0076 Holiday Sentiment. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Emma!!

My sweet little Emma is turning 2 today!

I put her in a disguise dress most of the time when we go out and she looks so petite, demure and sweet. But she really is a very assertive, sassy and somewhat spoilt little 2 yr old who gets away with pushing 6 year old boys down the slide if they take too long to go down. One day some kid is going to sit on her!

Anyhow, today we are having a small Dora the Explorer-themed birthday party for her with some close friends and family. While I was cutting out Dora images for wall decorations and getting the Dora cake, I realized there is nothing else Dora on the table besides the cake – so I fashioned a Dora Napkin holder out of a 6 pack paper carton. Here is it:

Stampendous BlogStar Team

Yeah yeah yeah!!!! I’m reduced to babbling my joy!!!

(hang on, let me gather my composure!!!)

Yeah yeah yeahhhhhh!!!! I made the Stampendous Blogstar Team!!! Check this out!!

I mean – really, what can I say – I’m so excited, I’m speechless!! OMG OMG OMG!!!

(sorry, it’s going to take me a few days to gather my composure!!)

edited to add (on 11/19/2011):

Alright I have regained my composure but the excitement is still here, bubbling beneath the surface.

I am truly honored to be chosen to be a part of the Stampendous BlogStar team. I LOVE Stampendous stamps – well I love a lot of stamps – but Stampendous is my bread and butter stamps. I especially love their array of exquisite florals images – their poppies, gerber daisies, and lately, I have an obsession with the Jumbo Cling sets – the Dahlia and Hydreangeas are the ones I have! I want to get my hands on the Tiger Lilies, the Zinnias, the Dogwoods and those holiday sets! It is an obsession and they do have the best florals! You can get Stampendous stamps from Michaels, Jo Ann Fabric, Archivers, really pretty much every store I’ve been to carries Stampendous stamps! Here is the official list of stores.

Another reason why I’m perculating with excitement is the ladies on the design team!! Look who I get to design with (don’t forget to look at the sidebar too)!! These are the ladies whose work I have admired from a far and visited their blog to get inspiration for many years! It is truly an honor to be among such incredible talents.

Thank you very much Stampendous for the opportunity. I can’t wait to get to know my team and get to stamping!!

Yarn wreath tutorial

Good morning,

I’m going to share a home decor creation today. My home is well overdue with a wreath for my front door – I do have a wooden rose wreath from Target hanging right there now, but strangely, it’s only been about 10 months old and I noticed that it’s starting to get mouldy.

So I decided on a yarn wreath – hopefully – one that will not get as grungy quite as quickly.

Here is my yarn wreath. One that anyone, crafty or not, can easily make.

Here is how to make it:

Supplies list

  • 14” foam wreath form
  • Cream Yarn – left over from my stash (approx. 1 skein worsted weight #4)
  • Gold Ribbon – from stash
  • Green Wired Edge Ribbon (or a wreath hanger)
  • Assorted Flowers – I had some in my stash from Prima, Recollections, Kaiser Craft
  • Acrylic Paint (to cover wreath form) – I used Claudine Hellmuth Traditional Tan since that’s what I had on hand; you can use any acrylic paint in a similar color as your yarn.
  • General tools and supplies: Fabric scissors, Hot glue gun

1. Paint wreath form with acrylic paint so green doesn’t show throw the yarn.

2. Wrap entire wreath form with yarn. Place a dot of hot glue at the beginning and intermittently throughout the wreath as you wrap round.

*Tip: I go round the wreath form twice to catch any gaps and give it a more cushiony and luxurious look to it.

3. Once the wreath is wrapped with yarn twice, hot glue the end in place. Wrap a gold ribbon around the wreath – hot glue the beginning and the end of the ribbon.

4. Your wreath is ready for embellishing. I attach a variety of matching flowers to the wreath with a hot glue gun.

Tip: You can leave the green Christmas ribbon off so you can use it any other time of the year.

I hope you give an easy project this a try. I think I’m going to try a red burlap one soon.

Have a happy day!

Flower Power!

Hello Peeps,

I’m thrilled to announce that I have been invited to do a guest design post for Whimsy Stamps this week! I shop there also, mainly to buy Crissy Armstrong’s images but with this guest post, I chose a stamp from the Moon Cookie Gallery and I’m glad I did because the variety of stamps there is astounding.

Anyhow, today’s challenge topic is Flower Power! Use flowers in your creations! Our prize – $15 worth of stamps of your choice!

Here is my flower power creation.

I love how pretty and simply drawn the little fairy is, I thought she went well with a CAS card too. Cloud die and negative cut is from Papertrey Ink.

Come play with us – anyone can join in the fun even if you use other stamps or play in other challenges too.

Have a fun day ahead!

Cardabilities Reveal Day for Nov 15

Hello friends,

Welcome to Cardabilities Reveal Day – November 15. I am excited about today’s sketch – this one sparked lots of interesting ideas for me …

Here is the sketch:

Here is my card:

I had so much fun with this sketch – the patterned paper, the layout of the circles, the borders, the size of the card, the shape of the card. So many possibilities. I even love the bling around the sentiment – wish I had found a larger circle bling – but a hug is supposed to be a tight squeeze right?

Love this sketch!! Come play along – you will love it too.

Mermaid inspired card

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone whereever you are,

This week’s challenge at Color Me Creative Classroom is Mermaid Inspired “Colors of the Sea & Sparkle”. Our sponsor is Michelle Perkett – she will be providing the prizes (a $10 gift certificate) and she has also kindly provided images for us to use. Incidentally, she is also have a 50% sale on her images for today only (until midnight PST) – you don’t want to miss this one!

Anyhow, this is my 1st mermaid that I have ever colored, so be kind to me:

I love this color combo and I found this patterned paper from Basic Grey Oxford collection that looks like what a mermaid’s tail would be like. I also add sparkles to her hair and the water and her scales are created using a glaze pen.

Don’t forget when you play along, you are also entered into the monthly drawing for the shopping spree at Oozak. How can you beat two prize opportunities – head on over to be inspired and get to coloring.

Forever Friends Design Team

Hi folks!!

Anyone remember this bear?

Well, I do!! It’s the cutest bear I have laid my eyes on and I grew up with him!! Stuff toys of him, stickers of him, I think my bedspread is the Forever Friends Bear too!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the Forever Friends Bear!

He is actually a part of the Andrew Brownsword Company who was later purchased by Hallmark Cards brand and trademarked as Forever Friends. I don’t think he is quite as renown in the US but he is just all over the place where I grew up in Singapore and Australia. I’m sure he is all over the place in the UK too when he was born.

I am thrilled to be invited to be a part of the Forever Friends design team and designing along side these ladies.

Come on over to the challenge blog and play along – you don’t even have to use a Forever Friends image to play (as long as you use an animal image).

The most adorable cow – EVER!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to this week’s challenge at The Pixie Cottage. I’m truly enjoying using these rubber stamps that Michelle has sent me – they produce such crisp images and some of these stamps are so achingly cute. Wait till you see the stamp I used today on my card!

As always, we have 2 parts to the challenge and you can choose either or both to play along with. This week theme is to make a blue boy card and/or use the sketch below:

I decided to use the sketch this week:

Well I guess it’s also a mostly blue boy card too. But see what I mean – isn’t he the most achingly cute boy cow there is around!! And there is a girl version too that I want to get my hands on!! You can find him at Michelle’s Scrapbooking & More.

My Favorite Color Combo

Welcome again to another Tuesday Throwdown challenge,

Today’s challenge is to make a card using my favorite color combo and my go-to colors are kraft and red, with a pop of green. Not any green – lime green. I love how trendy lime green is against a conservative kraft and red background. And not too much of it – too much lime green makes me nauseous, just a smidgen is the right amount.

So here is my kraft and red card with a dash of lime green:

My limegreen butterfly is from Jillibean Soup. Die cut is from Spellbinders. Embossing Folder is from Lifestyle Crafts.

Show us your fav. color combo and win some Stitchy Bear Stamps.

I’m in the spotlight …

Today is my spotlight post at One Crazy Stamper (OCS). I’m sharing 2 cards for my post.

The 1st card is a card I made for my son, well actually I might give it to my daughter and make him a superhero one – I’ll figure it out later since it’s everybody’s birthday at my house. I mean every single one of them – I am knee deep in birthday celebration at this time of the year. My DH just celebrated his b’day not too long ago, my little Emma’s turning 2 next week, my affectionate Shawn is celebrating his birthday in 3 weeks after that and my own 2 days after Shawn’s.

Imagine the number of cakes we have in the fridge at this time of the year!! For these couple of weeks only, we eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And let’s not talk about presents!

For some reason, all our friend’s birthdays are around the same time too (5 parties in the last 3 weeks) and I use birthday cards more than any other cards at this time of the year. So I make birthday cards whenever I can. Here is card #1:

The little elephant image (Celebrate Big) is from Whimsy Stamps Crissy Armstrong collection and can be found at OCS. He is colored with Copic Markers. Designer paper is from Fancy Pants design.

Card #2, I’m using it for celebrating another relationship, Grandparent’s Day (which is the day after Labor Day):

Sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations; Designer papers are from Crate Paper and the flower is actually handmade and here is a tutorial. You can also find the stamp from OCS. I really enjoyed making these cards for OCS – they carry the kind of stamps I love and I love designing for a team whose products I actually enjoy using – makes designing very easy.

Have a happy November, even if it’s not your birthday!
