CHA Day 4

Today is my last day at CHA … it was fun to meet people new and old, but extremely tiring. I am feeling every year of my age and my feet is feeling twice as old.

Here are some more pics from the floor. Enjoy and I hope you are all jazzed up with creativity and excitement from these new products coming out soon!

Tuesday Throwdown From the Heart Challenge

Hi y’all,

Before we get to the challenge this week, I am very sad to announce that this is my last challenge with the Tuesday Throwdown design team. This team is one of my 1st design teams and over the last half a year, I have gotten to know these ladies and come to regard them as my friends. To leave them is very heavy on my heart. I’m going to miss you Brenda, Ceal, Davi, Deedee, Lauren, NanaConnie, Yolanda.

Without making everyone any more sappy, the challenge this week is to use HEARTS in your creations. Our sponsor is Dearie Dolls Digi Stamps.

For such a simple card, I wasn’t quite expecting to use so many paper selection for this – My Mind’s Eye (floral & gingham), Studio Calico (tan text), Crate Paper (wood grain), Authentique Paper (dark red background). The black mat is actually just acrylic paint roughly painted on.

Come join in the fun at Tuesday Throwdown.

CHA Day 3

CHA is a craft lover’s paradise – thankfully there is no retail sale here  – and it’s way too exciting not to show these to you.

Enjoy my friends – and I’m not done with walking the floor – leave me a comment and let me know what you would like to see.

Cardabilities Reveal for January 30

Welcome to another Cardabilities reveal.

Wow! I’m finally caught up after a whirlwind December. I’m going continue with this clean slate and keep my post simple.

Here is the sketch for this reveal:

And here is my take on sketch.

Notice the clean slate theme … Love this sketch too BTW. Come join us – be there or be square!

CHA Day 2

Well hello everyone,

It’s been a whirlwind kind of a day! I spent the most part of my day demonstrating at the Crafter’s Companion booth and it’s past midnight and I’m totally spent … sounds like I didn’t see anything at the trade show floor today right!! Fortunately for you and me, I manage to get to the trade show floor before it was officially open and took a quick browse around (Thank you Laura for getting me on the Stampendous exhibitor badge).

Here is what I saw … (click on each pic to see a larger version – have to keep it to a manageable size)

There is so much to see here – tomorrow, I have a couple of free hours to myself which I intent to spend a much long time browsing each booth and seeing these swoon worthy products closeup and in more details – yup, I need to be fondling and examining them all. And you will not miss it too.

Check back in tomorrow.

p/s: sorry ladies from my Crafter’s Companion DT, I don’t have pic of Crafter’s Companion booth today since I was working the booth. Jennie took pics of me working the booth tho that I’m sure she will post. I will take pics of the booth tomorrow when I’m not working the booth.

I’m here – at CHA

Well Folks …

After traveling for the entire day today (5 1/2 hrs flight + 2 hr time difference) – I’m finally here. And I promised to keep you all informed with tons of photos so you’re not missing anything …

Nothing much has happened today yet – since it’s a traveling day for me .. but here is what greeted me when I got here at 5pm.

Too late to get onto the show floor (show floor is officially open tomorrow Jan 29) but since I was on an exhibitors badge – technically I could have gotten in today IF I had gotten there before 5pm … but I didn’t get to my hotel until 4.30pm – so that’s the way the dice rolled.

I did get to the 1st ever Flower Soft certification class where I learnt tons of techniques to use flower soft products – which I will soon share on my Flower Soft posts.

Here’s a picture of part of my Flower Soft team.

Sorry for the blurry picture – obviously someone else took that picture since I’m in the picture. That would be Krista, Mark, myself and Noreen in the picture (L to R).

There you go – beyond traveling for the better part of the day – that’s what I did from 5pm to 10pm on the 1st day I got to CHA.

Will share more pictures from the trade show floor tomorrow. I will do my darndest to dig myself out of bed and get there early so I can get pictures of as many booths as I can before the doors officially open at 10am.

Love you!

Hello everyone!

CHA is a day away!! This is always the time that I’m swooning over all the new products coming out. Crafter’s Companion will be at booth #2119 so if you will be there, stop by and say hello to us. I know I will be there and would love to meet you.

Every Friday for the last couple of weeks, you have seen me post various Crafter’s Companion new releases such as the Strawberry Kisses collection, the Arty Kure collection and the Kanji collection. My card today will feature the Love You set from SWALK Winter collection which is also just released this winter.

Here is a close up of the image.

I also used the new boxer board to make this drawer set that I plan to give to my husband for Valentine’s Day, with little surprise gifts in the drawers. It comes with a DVD of valuable instructions and projects, such as this one, and it is so easy to follow. Before owning the boxer and watching the DVD, I have never made anything more than 2 folds. So if I can make this, anyone else can! Check it out and have a fun and creative week!

I know I will at CHA and watch up for my daily updates from CHA! I’ll be sure to include lots of photos and I’m looking forward to meeting you in person if you are there.

CHA sneak peeks …

Hello everyone!! (warning: photo heavy post)

Wait – there is more – just like you, I’m also drooling and swooning over the rash of new papers and embellishments coming out and here is a sneak peak of what catches my fancy.

Love and Kisses

Welcome to this week’s challenge at The Pixie Cottage.

As always, we have 2 parts to the challenge and you can choose either or both to play along with. This week theme is to make a love and kisses/Valentine’s theme card and/or use the sketch below:Since I received Valentine Hannah from Michelle some 2 1/2 months ago now, I have been dying to use this stamp. So I had to go with the theme this week:

I love how this card turned out! The contrast between the strong colors in the background and the softer colors in the foreground really catches my eye!

Come play along with us. You could win 2 Pixie Cottage stamps of your choice, including this lovely Valentine Hannah!

Exciting announcement

I have a short but exciting announcement to make .. I’ve been invited to join the Momenta D-lite design team for 2012. Here is the announcement on the Momenta blog and the huge list of talented artists I get to work with. I can’t wait to get my hands on those fun and colorful papers and stickers!

You can have a go at making your own stickers too – for FREE! Just by sending your name and postal address to! (open to US and Canada residents).

Here’s a quick 2 min clip on how to design your own stickers in your own home …

Hope you will join me in trying something new!

Wire Works

Hello peeps,

Every time I de-clutter, I find new things I haven’t seen in years but I probably hoarded just in case they run out or the world comes to an end … this time it’s Flower Soft wires. Oh yes, I own them, but I don’t remember when was the last time I used them.

I simply took 1 flower soft wire and cut it into 5 parts, colored them brown so they look like branches on a tree and twisted them together. Dotted bits of Flower Soft glue to the ends and dusted some Fuschia Flower Soft for flowers. You could use floral wires as well but I have discovered having used both that the Flower Soft wires are paper wrapped and sooo much easier to color than a gloss coated floral wire. When I adhere the “branch” to the card, I discovered that the 1/8″ magic tape I used to attach the “branch” was too wide so I sprinkled a touch of Ultrafine Sage Flowersoft for moss along the “branch” that conveniently covered up the tape tack. I kept the rest of the card simple so my fun wire project can be the highlight of the card.

I knew I kept my wires for a reason! I hope you’ve had a chance to de-clutter and discover jewels in your stash.

Wintry Frost is an understatement.

Hello everyone,

It’s freezing right now in MN – cold, icy, snowy – aarrggh. I’d rather these things be only on a card than outside my door as well.

Here is my icy cold and snowy card I made for this week’s challenge at CMC challenge.

The Theme this week is Wintry Frost – color icy, snowy, wet images to look wintry. Also use this photo as inspiration.

Lily of the Valley (LOTV) is our sponsor this week..yeah!! Absolutely adorable LOTV images!!

The papers I used this week is from Echo Park (grey circle background), Basic Grey (small brown dots) and Authentique Paper (blue medallion) – love to mix and match paper manufacturers, such a fun challenge. Ice was created using Stampendous Shaved Ice from the Frantage collection. Snowflakes on the focal image is done with Stickles. The diecut snowflakes are from Marianne Designs.

Don’t forget when you play along the entire month, you are also entered into the monthly drawing for the shopping spree at Oozak. How can you beat two prize opportunities – head on over to be inspired and get to coloring.

I’m still digging out of this one …

Has this ever happen to you – you make something fun things in your craftroom and then realize that you either don’t need it or you have to make something else to go with it.

Well, it happened to me. A few weeks ago I made these matching sets of kraft Stampendous cards and a business associate of mine saw them on my blog and wanted to buy them all and then some. Just as I was about to deliver those cards, I realize that all those trims and die cuts did not fit into a regular envelope. I didn’t want to just throw them into a large brown envelope with the cards rattling around inside so here I am again making a gift box – so my cards would fit in something to present to my customer – talk about an escalation of commitment. I sure hope I don’t end up making a bag to fit the box in.

I create a box bottom the size of my largest card; mine was 6”(L) x 4.5”(W) x 1”(D); then I cut out a sheet of cardstock that wraps around the box with a 0.5” edge beyond the box base. (mine was 7”(L) x 11” (W); scoring the width at 5” and 6”). That cardstock was adhered to the box base and box depth, creating a giftbox to hold cards.

And before I forget, there is still time to enter into this month’s Bling challenge at Stampendous! Glitter, rhinestones, sparkly stickers … you name it.  Just make it shiny and get it on your project!

We are giving away an Cherub Wishes Clear Stamp set set to a random winner. (sorry US winners only).

Check out these inspiration from my other fabulously talented Stampendous team members

We want YOU to play along. Just add you direct link to your card (make sure you’ve loaded it up with tons of BLING) to the linky tool below (or on the Stampendous blog) by February 2, 2012 at 11:00 PM EST. You don’t have to use a Stampendous image or products to play along, but we sure love it when you do! You can enter as many times as you’d like.

And a quick note about the linky tool below – it’s the exact same collection that is being shared on the Stampendous blog, and some of my teammates’ blogs.  You can add your direct link to your project featuring bling or glitter here on my blog, or any of the other blogs that are sharing the collection!

We need tranquility

Good morning everyone,

I hope your New Year has been going well. For me, most of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and the clean up after that is done and some sense of normalcy and routine is coming back to our lives. Just at a right time for me, Crafter’s Companion has just released a new collection of Kanji stamps – lots of unique and meaningful Asian sentiment and images.

This collection intimidated me at first – I didn’t recognize any of those Asian characters and I have never done any Asian art – even if I am Asian! But as I was working through my supplies looking for Asian embellishments and papers to use (I have few of those too), my creative juices started perculating. I found in my supplies some mulberry papers, flowers and leaves looking like Cherry Blossoms and willow, bamboo skewers and chopsticks (those were extras from some takeout I ate at my desk), Asian images on Western papers like a trendy fusion mix (this I found in Basic Grey and Kaiser Craft paper collections), I even though of stamping these Asian characters as my background paper!

I was very excited about the possibilities this set was generating. Here is what I came with:

The unexpected can surprise you. I hope you will have as much fun with this set as I did.

Here’s wishing you tranquility for the New Year ahead.

I cannot live without embossing

… It is by far, my favorite way to add texture to my card – dry or heat if fine with me.

When I saw the 2012 challenge schedule for The Pixie Cottage design team, that was what I made a beeline for! That’s the challenge theme for this week at The Pixie Cottage – use embossing. You could also make a card using the sketch below (either theme or sketch or both is fine):

I made my card using the embossing theme this week, here it is:

I used The new Pixie Cottage stamp Sebastian the Snowman. Ribbon is from Michael’s Arts and Craft Store. Swiss dots embossing folder is from Cuttlebug. I also heat embossed the swiss dot background with some halographic embossing power. The background stamping around the snowman is Stampendous Cling Snow Swirls and embossed with Stampendous Shabby white embossing enamels and embellished with Stampendous Shaved Ice. Yup – I got carried away with all that embossing – it’s so much fun!

So now it’s your turn to go emboss something – don’t forget to turn off your heat gun – you don’t want to burn anything down. That’s my PSA for the day!

The randomly picked winner of their choice of two fabulous Pixie Cottage stamps.

Happy heating in this cold cold January!

Step it up …

Hello my online friends,

I wanted to share this card I made using a Mabel Lucie Attwell Card Kit – a Flowersoft New Release. This is a first for me in a couple of regards – using a card kit and making a center step card!

I don’t know why I have never thought of using a card kit before but I LOVE how this turned out! It’s just so easy to use – I just cut out the image and used it as a card topper. The image is just perfect – no coloring, with pre-marked lines that is easy to cut out and all I did was just embellished – how fun! It sure helps with a lot more room on a center step card to play with.

Papers are from October Afternoon, Crate Paper, Studio Calico and My Mind’s Eye. My sentiment is a Stampendous stamp on a Crate Paper chipboard tag. I love how the vintage elements playing along side nicely with the relatively modern felted trees from Pebbles.

And thanks to the DVDs I have been watching from Crafter’s Companion, I finally mastered making a card with more than 2 folds.

Now your challenge is to take any card found on one of the Design Team blogs or on the Flowersoft Blog and “step it up”.  You will need to link to the original card and show your stepped up creation. If you upload your creation to SCS, please use the keyword FSC43 and flowersoft so we will be able to find you and then add the link to your card to the comments section on the Flower Soft Blog.  The prize for his challenge is the Mabel Lucie Attwell Card Kit.

For the love of a stamp

Dear friends,

Sometimes I make a card for no reason, just because I love the stamps and I love the papers. When I saw this Stampendous Cling Jumbo Romantic Border stamp set, all I saw was a romantic girly wedding card and I had the perfect flowery paper to go with it.

I’m glad I also found a textured cardstock to stamp the image on to give it that slightly distressed and vintage look. Oh and that flowery paper is from My Mind’s Eye and the elegant sentiment is also from Stampendous Perfectly Clear Stamps Vase Set. I’m happy with my girly, not too frilly, romantic wedding card.
