Spring is finally here!!

Yeah yeah yeah!!

and welcome to this week Pastel/Colors of Spring challenge at Color Me Creative Copic Challenge.

When I think of Spring, I think of warmer weather, melting snow, new babies, spring cleaning. That’s why, at this time of the year, I feel obligated to spring clean – to dig out my scraps and use them before they all burst out of my scrap drawer and drown me! The background of this card is stitched together with scraps of paper left from other projects – I don’t recall all of the manufacturer they are little scraps no more than the 1-2″ width you see – and if my memory serves me right, I see Studio Calico, My Mind’s Eye in there (I could be wrong). Stitching backgrounds together are a great way to use up paper scraps – just find a coordinating color tone and value, so I don’t stand out more than others (unless that’s your intent). My image is from Crafter’s Companion and that little furry flower center is also a piece of scrap ribbon trim.

To enter in the challenge, you can use any image you want as long as they are colored with any alcohol markers. Your card must also be newly created.

The winner of this challenge will win a 2 stamps from Little Darling Stamps and a park of Cryogen cardstock. And when you play along the entire month (just 2 cards), you are also entered into the monthly drawing for the shopping spree at Oozak. How can you beat two prize opportunities – head on over to be inspired and get to coloring.

World’s Best Dad

Hello everyone!

It’s time for a Crafter’s Companion new release! And I think it’s the best yet – the Beatrix Potter collection!!I grew up reading all about Peter Rabbit, his cousin Benjamin Bunny (and his dad also goes by the same name), Mr Jeremy Fish and Timothy Tippytoes! Who is a better dad than Benjamin Bunny!

Don’t worry – Father’s Day is on 17th of June this year and I am mighty early for a Father’s Day card. It’s only because I have my handmade card business that I have to prepare inventory for in time for June sales.

Well here is Benjamin Bunny munching away on some veggie looking all dapper in his signature blue coat.

He was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers. I was concerned of using the “wrong” shade for such a recognizable character, you know, like coloring the American flag a wrong shade of red and blue; but I quickly remembered that there is nothing to fret – there is a list of resources on my Spectrum Noir instructional DVD that lists all the colors for the Crafter’s Companion characters. Phew!

Here are the colors I used: GB10, EB2. EB1 for the bunny himself and TB3, TB2 and CT3 for his coat. (the instructional DVD lists TB4 instead of TB3 for his coat – I didn’t have that shade so I just layered on TB3 a little more)

Have fun with your Spectrum Noir markers – they are a breeze to use.

Hello everyone,

When I think of Spring, I think of new babies, spring wedding, spring break, my little brother’s birthday – all reasons to celebrate!

Here is my “Celebrate” card:

I love this pack of Flower Soft paper crafting kit called The Wine Buffs I used – look at the bottle!! It looks so real! There are Wine Buff stamps as well that I can’t wait to get my hands on! Very fun kit to play with.

Oh and I should add that I made that red ribbon with Flower Soft as well – shape a paper strip into a ribbon, add Flower Soft glue and sprinkle with Flower Soft! When it dries, it’s so pliable and sturdy as well – all ready for you to mount on your card!

Here’s a list of my other Design Team members for more inspiration:

Deb Seyer
Jennifer Buck
Linda Beeson

Happy Creating and enjoy this warm up!

edited: there is no challenge this week – we are having technical difficulties at the blog. (Thanks Katherine for bringing it to my attention)

Cuddly Critters

Hello everyone,

Today is my last post for The Pixie Cottage – my term with them has come to an end and Michelle has decided to take  a break for the summer (i.e. not renewing any terms). Thank you for the opportunity to join this fabulous team for the last half a yr! I had a great time getting to know you fine ladies and working with the incredibly talented design team.

Without further ado, here is my card today that would fit in perfectly with the current challenge over at The Pixie Cottage.

The challenge this week is to create a card using cuddly critters and/or use the sketch below:

Well, I might just have a weakness for cuddly critters and I used this cute little one called Gone Fishing from Michelle’s Scrapbooking and More.

This little cutie was colored using Copic Markers. Papers are from Lilybee Designs.

Come join in the fun and win 2 stamps of your choice from The Pixie Cottage!

5 random things about me

Hello everyone,

I’m procrastinating today … I have housework to do, cards to make, kids to play with, errands to run but I can’t pull myself out of it today. So I’m going to procrastinate some more and tell you 5 random things about me today.

Here goes …

1) I have more purses than anyone I know – except, I only mainly use 1!

2) I don’t drink coffee – it gives me the ji-ji-jitters and I hate jitter-rrring all day

3) I drive a Toyota Highlander, hmmm, not very sexy.

4) I LOVE to travel period – anywhere …  no I wouldn’t sell my kids for a plane ticket; don’t even go there.

5) Okay – the people who work with me on my design teams already know this – but I’m a NIGHT OWL!! I wish the day started at 12nn and ends at 12midnight .. oh I would be so happy. So if you catch me on FB, online or IRL in the morning and I don’t say hello to you – it’s because the hamster in my head ain’t rolling yet.

There you have it!

My Homemade Washi Tape

Hello everyone,

I have OCD tendencies – there I said it. For the most part, I keep it in check and more importantly, try never to inflict it on anyone. However, every once in a while, my OCD tendencies raises it’s ugly head and I become obsessed with 1 thing. This is my latest craze … home made washi tape … thanks Janelle.

I dug out a 12 yard roll of medical tape (paper variety), tape a length of it on my craft mat, airbrushed with my copic markers and stamped on it. Pretty easy to make and let’s just say, there is probably slightly less than 2 yards left and my entire crafting studio is draped with tape. For the more visual learner, my Stampendous teammate Wendy Price has a step-out tutorial here – she uses watercolor to paint her homemade tape. I’ve tried it with acrylic paint too – didn’t like the watercolor (looks very wash out to me) or the acrylic paint (too opaque). So experiment and see which look you like.

Anyhow, with that much tape around – I had to use it of course. Here is the result:

The stamps I used for the tape were all from Stampendous- Cling Cheery Recipe card (lines), Cling Jumbo Rosehip (flower on yellow tape), Fairy Queen clear stamp (small flower on grey tape), the Polka dots were from a discontinued baby themed clear stamp set. Background paper was from studio calico, chipboard stickers were from My Mind’s Eye, the dribble of mists were colors from October Afternoon set and the alpha title was just some leftover letters I had from my craft supplies.

Total cost of my homemade washi tape – $3. Awesome layout – priceless!

This ship has arrived!

Good morning folks,

That’s right -  this ship has arrived at the Crafter’s Companion store.

Lately, I’ve been bitten by the clean and simple (CAS) bug. Well, my style has always been CAS but this week, more so than others. I’ve also been trying my hand at making more masculine cards – it’s been a challenge of mine for a while so I’m hoping with some practice, it’s working for me.

For this card, I used Sheena Douglass’s a little bit sketchy range called Destination. It is one of the most complete stamps I have used and at the right size too. I stamped the image twice – attaching 1 to the card base and cutting out the ship on the 2 image. I mounted the cut out ship on 3d foam tape onto the 1st image to create some dimension. The edges of the card was lined with my gold leafing pen. I did toyed with the idea of adding some twine for a nautical effect but decided not to draw the focal away from the ship. (couldn’t resist the pearls – wanted to use some brads or metal but I thought I could get away with it with an image about the sea)

If I may say so, I liked how masculine the card turned out and I’ve already sold that for Father’s Day. Yeah!

Momenta Birthday Card

Hello everyone,

Meet today’s card:

It’s a Momenta birthday card – card base, papers, round sentiment sticker and frame – all from Momenta. It’s a one-stop shop. My ribbon is some leftover from my craft supplies (I think it may be from Offray but I could be wrong) and my embossed label sentiment is created my Dymo label maker.

p/s: how do you like my recent changes in photography? I’ve finally dug out the DSLR camera and learning how to use it properly – believe it or not, I could get it to photograph better than my point and shoot!! clearly user error!

May I have your support?

Good morning my friends,

This is my 2nd post for the day.

I have an exciting announcement today I can barely contain my glee! I’ve been selected as a semi-finalist on the Heartfelt Creations design team call … yeah yeah yeah!!

Frankly, I never actually thought I will get this far. So it certainly came as a VERY pleasant surprise.

I do need your help to get me to the final round

** Please go to the Heartfelt Creations blog (right here) and vote for me.**

Your input will be taken into account by the selection committee and in return, you will be entered to receive a $50 Heartfelt Creations gift certificate.

Wanna see the projects I submitted to get me here … here it is:

Wire Works Wednesday

Hello friends!

I had so much fun playing with my Flower Soft wires that I can’t wait to share today’s card with you.

Yup – this is another technique I learnt at my Flower Soft certification – to use Flower Soft sprinkles in a whole new way beyond just flowers and flower centers! Isn’t this cool!

I cover almost the entire length of wire with Flower Soft glue (save for an inch at the bottom for you to adhere to card) and sprinkle with Flower Soft. When it dries, I twisted the wires around a pencil to form the swirlies! So fun to do! You can of course make any shape you’d like with these Flower Soft covered wires – think of the possibilities!!

Have fun playing with your Flower Soft in new ways!

Anything goes at CMC Copic challenge

Hello peeps,

You know, the best kind of challenge that I like is the one where you can create ANYTHING! The moon and sky is your limit and this is the challenge this fortnight  at Color Me Creative Copic challenge – “Anything Goes”!

Oh yeah! I made a super duper long card – 4″ x 9″ business note card size! My 1st time working with this size for an anything goes themed challenge – kinda fun actually with that much space to work with and totally different kind of layout!

And to get a card base that size, I actually started with a 12″ x 12″ cardstock and cut out a 8″ x 9″ card base; Score the 8″ size at the halfway point (4″) and form your card base. I used some old Making Memories patterned paper and my Memory Box Die to create the floral wreath. Those pink flowers are actually fabric flowers I made using Glubers (they’re really extra large glue dots) – here is a video tutorial on how to make these flowers. And let’s not forget the cute little girl stamp – she is actually a Sylvia Zet Wee stamp that Tracey from Spesch Designer Stamps sent over for me to work on.

To enter in the challenge, you can use any image you want as long as they are colored with any alcohol markers. Your card must also be newly created.

Spesch Designer stamps is also the prize sponsor for the winner of this challenge And when you play along the entire month (just 2 cards), you are also entered into the monthly drawing for the shopping spree at Oozak. How can you beat two prize opportunities – head on over to be inspired and get to coloring.

Beauty in a snow globe

Good morning folks,

I am doing another Crafter’s Companion post today – why another one so quickly you might wonder. Well, I’m covering for Tracy, another Crafter’s Companion design team mate who is out on vacation having fun. I’m having fun in my craftroom too – wouldn’t you join me in welcoming the result of that fun.

Sometimes, it’s just nice to capture all that snow and beauty in a little snow globe. This timeless beauty I’m speaking off is the Art Kure Goldhill Shaftesbury stamp set, captured in a Memory Box snowglobe die colored with alcohol markers. The “snow” in the globe is from some Flower Soft sprinkles, the globe is embellished with Doodblebug twine.

*Tip: I would die cut the colored image 1st before adding the Flower Soft so you’re not crushing all the texture when it goes through the die cut machine.*

I matted the snow globe on some Echo Park patterned paper and adhered it to sage cardstock that has been scored horizontally twice on the top and bottom third. This “relax” sentiment is actually also from a Crafter’s Companion, Popcorn the Bear Father’s Day set. A clean and simple card that is hopefully serene and relaxing too.

Hope you are having a relaxing weekend.

Sweet Poppet

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (if there are any reading this post),

Today’s card features the oh so adorable Poppet - a Crafter’s Companion new release. She comes in so many different poses – one dancing ballet, one gardening, there is a super cute one I’m dying to get my hands on of her making a flower garland. Here is one of her presenting you a flower – awww..

I colored her with Spectrum Noir Pens today (TB3, TB5, TB6 for her coat and hat, LV1 & LV2 for her socks and shoes; FS2, FS3, PP1 for her skin and TN7 & EB5 for her hair)

I lightly shaded her flowers with LV1 and enhanced the color and texture by adding a variety of Flower Soft sprinkles on it. She was then diecut out with oval Spellbinders nestabilities and matted her on an embossed frame embellished with a touch of old English lace.

I’m off for a spot of English tea now!

Have fun creating folks …

Cardabilities Reveal – March 15

Go forth and conquer!

Perfect Pastels

Welcome to another Pixie Cottage challenge!

The challenge this week is to create a card using pastels and/or use the sketch below:

I’m not great at a pastel palette – I love my strong contrast and darker and brighter colors. But like many of you, I love a challenge to strength my comfort zone. So be kind to me and here is my pastel card:

Girly girl buffy here was colored using Copic Marker.Papers are from My Mind’s Eye, that stunning die cut is from Heartfelt Creations and that pretty pink flower is from Prima.

Come join in the fun and win 2 stamps of your choice from The Pixie Cottage!

Happy Spring!!

Hello everyone,

I’m thrilled that the weather is getting warmer – I’m not a fan of snow, slush and cold … I can say unequivocally that we only moved to MN for work, definately NOT for the weather!

Since Spring is in the air – I’m also in a much better mood these days and I made this card to celebrate Spring and it’s incidentally also the challenge over at Flower Soft blog!

The card is a 5″ x 7″ card and the bicycle image is a card topper from Flower Soft Country Bicycle pack. I used a variety of Flower Soft sprinkles to bring the flowers to life. Butterfly is from Little Yellow Bicycle.

Here’s a list of my other Design Team members for more inspiration:

Deb Felts
Deb Seyer
Jennifer Buck
Linda Beeson
Krista Riley
Dawn Lusk
Lisa Murphy

We would love for you to join us for this challenge – simply add your creation to the comments section of the challenge post on the Flower Soft blog. If you upload your creation to SCS, please use the keyword FSC43 and flowersoft so we will be able to find you. The prize for this challenge is the Mabel Lucie Attwell 3D Pop-up Card Kit.

Happy Creating and enjoy this warm up!

Momenta Feature

Hi everyone,

Momenta is featuring 1 of my cards I made for them on their blog, together with some of my other D-lite team members.

Here is the one that is on the Momenta blog today:

One of the things I love about Momenta products is the wide array of products they have that it makes very quick and easy cards. I made this card using a Momenta card base (instant fancy background), Momenta patterned paper all from 1 paper pack, Momenta sentiment sticker and frame. I added some twine and flowers I had in my stash and another instant card in less than 10 mins.

Give it a try – you’d be surprise how even a non crafter can whip up a simple card such as this without much effort. It’s confidence boosting too!

Happy Crafting!

Royal background not Royal Dalton

Good morning friends,

I’ve been meaning to set a goal for myself of making a card a day (365 card a year) but as I look at my blog, I discovered I already make a card a day and sometimes 2 so much for that goal – leave me a comment if you have another goal suggestion for me … but in the meantime,

Here is today’s card:

Both of these stamps – the motif background and the sentiment stamps are from the newly released Stamp It collection. They are all so elegant and royal looking.  I played on the regal theme by keeping my card simple and stamping the motif background on gold cardstock. Next I diagonally scored my brown cardstock using The Ultimate Tool and matted my background image with photo corners and pearls. The sentiment was stamped on the same gold cardstock and double matted with a pop of purple to bring out the shimmer in the gold.

That’s all there is to this card and as in true fashion, after I completed my card, I thought it would also make such a regal wedding card as well. Oh the versatility of this collection! LOVE it!

Have a creative day y’all!

Momenta Haircut Layout

Hello everyone,

I think I’ve got it! I’ve been stuck in the card making mode for a while, then a layout making mode – and I found it difficult switching gears. But I think I finally figured it out – so I’d like to share a layout I made of my little Emma’s 1st haircut … it’s a 2 pager but not one of those 2 pager that has the same layout (hence I didn’t digitally stitch it together)

Page 1: Before

Page 2: After

Page 2 was actually an inspiration from a magazine layout. I wish I scanned in the magazine page before tossing it out.

All my pretty feminine papers are from Momenta – Chloe’s Garden Pyramid Paper Pad.

p/s: notice the new blog design?? you likie?
