Sketch challenge at Paper Craft Planet!

Howdy folks,

Come join us on this nice sunny day!

I often wonder if a simple open layout is easier to create with or a well-defined layout easier. Personally, I like working with a simple one and let my imagination take me when I’m playing with papers or embellishments.

Here is my version:

The card features home made washi tape and Stampendous stamps. As I finished this card, I wondered if I could use a card layout for a scrapbook layout..I flipped the sketch around for this one and here is my attempt:

The beautiful patterned paper with the banners already printed on is from My Mind’s Eye and I love that a simple layout allows me to see most of my papers too.

There you have it – 1 sketch, 2 different ways. How would you like to use your sketch?

Congratulations Morehead

Good morning friends,

Have you ever done some Spring cleaning and realize there are tons of dies, inks, supplies that you have not used in a while? Guilty here!!

I found my Papertrey Ink cupcake die that was collecting dust so I decided to use it for something other than a birthday card. I used it for a wedding card instead – pairing it with the fairly new Crafter’s Companion Morehead Collection. They are such an adorable little boy and girl pair and I cannot get enough of them! It’s right here:

I used the Marriage stamp set in that collection and colored them sparingly with Spectrum Noir markers. I left most of their clothes uncolored with the exception of creating shadow and folds. Took me a while to let go of the idea that I had to color every single part of an image!

Here are the markers I did used:

  • Hair: GB3, GB4, GB5
  • Skin: FS2, FS3, PP1
  • Pinks: PP3, PP4, PP5, PP6
  • Green (leaves): DG3
  • Shadow (on clothes): BG1

Patterned paper and sentiment sticker are from Momenta. Love these really convenient sentiment stickers!

Well, here are the circles and rectangles for this month’s challenge on my card, using Water your Soul Stamp set:

Peace, Love & Joy

Happy Friday everyone!

I have to start by saying I absolutely adore these ticket stamps from the Crafter’s Companion Paintbox Poppet Christmas collection when it first arrived at my doorstep and I am thrilled to be able to use it for a modern Christmas card! I love the look of  these modern CAS looking cards and I have the perfect Echo Park paper to go with it .. check it..

The entire sentiment actually says “Peace, Love and Joy” in 3 sentences. I stamped each word into the ticket by masked off the rest of the sentiment – really a handy technique if you wanted to change the layout of how the sentiment originally came in. Each ticket was distressed and assembled together on the card as you see it.

Peace, love and joy to you my friends!

Moments in Time Boy Sports

Hello everyone!

I’m somewhat recovered from my vacation and I can’t believe school is starting in 2 weeks – I’m not ready! My little kiddo is starting 1st grade. I anticipate making many of such nostalgic sports cards in the years ahead and this is my 1st one and I love how it turned out.

This Moments in Time Boy Sport card topper is a new one from Flower Soft. I also used a new Flower Soft color – Moss Green – for the ground. Papers are from American Crafts, Twine is from May Arts and that sentiment is from Flourishes. Don’t forget to check out my team mates blog for more masculine card inspiration.

Christmas Day with Mulberry Wood

Hello everyone!

I think most of you know I run a handmade card business and usually once August comes around, I’m in full fledged Christmas card making mode in order to have inventory ready for the season so I love that it’s timely that this week’s Crafter’s Companion new release is Mulberry Wood Christmas images. I love that this collection not only has images, it also has so many sentiment and tag images that I don’t always have enough of. Here is how I used one of them.

This is a simple card to make – I embossed and sanded a lovely piece of Core’dination card stock, matted it with patterned paper and stamped the tag image, then die cut it. A bonus I discovered – all the circle tag images on this stamp set fit the Spellbinders Nestabilities circle die SM perfectly. Yay – sure makes easy work!  I also embellished the edge of the tag with some glitter to give it some pop. I hope this gives you some inspiration for your Christmas card making.

Gourmet Rubber Stamp POTM – My Fancy Lunch Bag

Hello folks..

Are you guessing what POTM stands for?? I did too when I 1st saw it – it’s the Project Of The Month. Our design team takes turns to feature stamps on a project every month and write a tutorial on how to do it. Here is mine:

I was making this bag for a sandwich lunch I made for my husband to take to work on a special occasion (he usually just carries a regular lunch bag because I’m not making this for every single lunch! Are you kidding me…).

It’s really simple to make .. I’m not one for elaborate projects that mere mortals like myself can only drool on.

Any patterned paper (I used Kaiser Craft)

Gourmet Rubber Stamp set (In the Kitchen)

dies (Papertrey Ink – tag and front and center die)

brown lunch bag

  1. Cut 2 rectangle piece of patterned paper approx. larger than the front and center die, stitch a panel of cardstock down the middle and die cut both panels (this will make the front and the bag of the bag).
  2. Adhere a ribbon down the front center panel.
  3. Trim a lunch bag down to size and adhere the stitched panel to the front and bag of lunch bag.
  4. Die cut a tag, stamp and color the cute little toaster. Attach a piece of twine to the top of the tag
  5. Make a bow from the same ribbon and add tag and bow to the bag. Embellish with a button.

There you have it … and there are so many cute images on the set that I’m planning to use the muffin image for my son’s school lunch next. Here is the cutest kitchen set I’ve laid my eyes on.

Oh and don’t forget – the new August appetizer set releases today too!! the cutest Halloween set and a back-to-school set. Lookie …

Stampendous Wobbly Fun!

Hello peeps,

This is the the most fun I’ve had on a card – it wobbles!! Action Wobbles that is .. they are action springs you add to part of your card so it wobbles!! How fun is that, especially with interactive cards back in the rage.

All of this entire week, the Stampendous and Action Wobbles teams are taking our stamped cards beyond this stratesphere of fundom and showcasing how they are using Action Wobbles springs on their cards. It is soooo easy to use – just peel and stick under your image! So hold on to your seats and get ready for plenty of inspiration and multiple opportunities to win some fabulous prizes from both companies.

Here is my fun card with my wobbly Stampendous pinecones and Christmas Sentiment, both new released stamp sets:

I also used Stampendous embossing enamels (aged gold and caramel fragments) on the card and sentiment was stamped in Stampendous glitter with a glue pad.

Don’t forget to check out the other talented ladies showcasing their projects today.

Are there prizes?? Of course!! You win 6 Action Wobbles springs and  Party Hat Kiddo and open to US and Canadian residents too! Leave me a comment – Happy hopping and good luck!

Wire Works Wednesday

Hello everyone!

We just returned from our monthly long Asian adventure. I’m jetlagging and up at some odd hours of the night. Tonight, I just realized I have not played with wires in a long while – Flower Soft wires that is. So I decided to make a good old fashion bouquet of Flowers with it.

It’s right there – stuck in the bicycle basket. But I wanted to direct your eye to the pots of other flowers you see – those are the new Flower Soft colors just released last week at CHA – specifically, Orange Blossom, Burgundy and Citrus Crush… oh so delicious! Papers are from Basic Grey, the garland is from Little Yellow Bicycle and the image is a Flower Soft card topper!

I’m off to see if I can get some sleep!

Happy Birthday!

Hello peeps,

Birthday and thank you cards are the usual types of cards I’m always short on so whenever I have no occasion to make a card for, I always make either a birthday or thank you card to build my stash. Here is one:

The Appetizer set I used is Cupcakes and Candles – it’s not a new set but it’s so sweet I couldn’t resist! Check out our gallery for more ideas on how to use this set! Paper is from Momenta & stickers are KI Memories.

Core Cards Creative Frenzy

Hello Peeps,

True confession time … I am a paper junkie, card stock, patterned paper, scrap paper, post it note paper, toilet paper (oops – didn’t think you noticed) – I LOVE paper period. DH thinks my studio is a fire hazard and the stamps only serve as fuel! LOL – I just love being in my paper haven.

Today I’m sharing the many ways I work with paper. (love making a video tutorial once I get my studio cleaned up)

Project #1: Paint it.

This one I dabbed on with a stippling brush. Dip my brush into many colors and twirl it on the cardstock. Well I stamped it after that, punched it and sewed on it too! Followed by some wet embossing .. you can’t do too much with cardstock!

Project #2: Cut and emboss.

It’s paper – how can you not cut it! I die cut a big ole’ hole in the middle and embossed the heck out of it. I love the colored core of the Core’dination paper I used. It brings out the design so much more! Oh I wish I had some of the kraft core paper but my Archivers or LSS didn’t carry them..hmm.

Project #3: Score it and sand it.

Well, actually I didn’t want to score it by hand so I ran it into the crimping machine (which I cranked by hand … does that count?) and sanded it to get the way COOL score lines! It sure made lining up the sentiments so much easier.

If you love paper as much as I do – head on over to Core’dinations and get the amazing variety of colored core cardstock that you can humanly manipulate!

Will You Play With Me?

Hello hello everyone!!

I’m back from my vacation and I missed you! I had a great time visiting family and my kids just had a blast with our DisneyLand and Universal Studios visit. I will have photos posted on my facebook page once I get it off the camera. A special thanks to my amazing team mates – Taylor, Dawn and Denise – for covering for my absence.

This week, we have a new release – from a new artist too – Morehead stamps. The cutest adorable little boy and girl images .. wait, I said that about SWALK stamps too. Morehead – SWALK – Morehead – SWALK …gosh I can’t choose, oh well, just get them both. Here is my simple interactive card:

The images are so easy to color – I colored him with my Spectrum Noirs (hat & shoes: GB6, GB7, GB10; shirt GB1, GB3, GB4; pants: TB5, TB6; flower & bandana DR4, DR5, DR7, flower stem DG2, DG3; skin FD2, FS3, PP1). I put a brad at the top of my image so it would swivel away to reveal the hidden sentiment panel. All papers and stickers from Momenta. I have discovered the joys of stickers – just slap it on and you have an instant sentiment or focal image!

Hope your July was fun!
