It takes Rain to Make a Rainbow

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Wire works Wednesday for Flower Soft. I have a fun and simple way to use your wires today … here it is:

Isn’t it simple – just bend it into an umbrella handle and color it to the shade you want with your alcohol markers. Stripe patterned paper is from American Craft. Stamps are from Stampendous. I also used the new Flower Soft color Daffodil to add texture to the umbrella top. Another quick and easy 10 min card!

Have a good one!

It’s Humphrey’s sister Lottie

Hello everyone!

It’s Friday with Steph and it’s Humphrey time! This week, our design team was given the opportunity to pick whatever image we want to showcase and I’m back with my favorite elephant! She is just the most adorable not so little thing!

Here she is:

She was colored using Spectrum Noir Markers, every opportunity to practice my pens. I used IG2, IG4, IG5 for Humphrey; CT1, CT2, CT3 for the yellows, TB3, TB5, TB7 for the blues, TN7, TN8 for her shoes – it’s so easy to pick a color, it’s already pre-packaged in the range you need to use! My background paper is by Teresa Collins and my tag was wrapped with zigzag patterned washi tape by Queen and Co. at the bottom. Sentiment is from Justrite Stamps and the twine is from Doodlebug Design.

A clean and simple layout

Good morning everyone,

Woohoo! It’s the first Saturday in April, and that means the Stampendous team has a brand new challenge for you. This month, in honor of Earth Day, we are challenging ourselves (and you) to make something that uses product(s) that are recycled, re-purposed, or reused in some way. The possibilities are endless! Snazz up a household item and turn it into something beautiful, use something unexpected on your card, or even just use up some scraps you’ve had in your stash forever (that’s recycling, right?!?)

This is my layout filled with scraps and things that have been in my possession for quite a LONG while. I don’t know why I even keep scrap paper this small but it came in handy now.  And those mists -so long that it clogged so I dribbled it on instead.

Ready to see some more?  Here is the whole list of my fantastic teammates, who are sharing some fabulous inspiration with you today:

Don’t forget – we want YOU to play along with is!  You have until Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:59 PM EST to add your direct link to our collection at the end of this post (or on the Stampendous blog).  You do not have to use Stampendous products, but we sure love it when you do!  As an extra incentive for playing along, one lucky crafter (drawn at random) will receive this fabulous Mother’s Love Perfectly Clear Stamp Set.  Available in stores now, it will be on the website for purchase soon!

Due to shipping restrictions, the winner must have a US address.  We hope you have a chance to play along with us (you an enter as many times as you’d like!) this month…Happy Crafting!

Beauty in a snow globe

Good morning folks,

I am doing another Crafter’s Companion post today – why another one so quickly you might wonder. Well, I’m covering for Tracy, another Crafter’s Companion design team mate who is out on vacation having fun. I’m having fun in my craftroom too – wouldn’t you join me in welcoming the result of that fun.

Sometimes, it’s just nice to capture all that snow and beauty in a little snow globe. This timeless beauty I’m speaking off is the Art Kure Goldhill Shaftesbury stamp set, captured in a Memory Box snowglobe die colored with alcohol markers. The “snow” in the globe is from some Flower Soft sprinkles, the globe is embellished with Doodblebug twine.

*Tip: I would die cut the colored image 1st before adding the Flower Soft so you’re not crushing all the texture when it goes through the die cut machine.*

I matted the snow globe on some Echo Park patterned paper and adhered it to sage cardstock that has been scored horizontally twice on the top and bottom third. This “relax” sentiment is actually also from a Crafter’s Companion, Popcorn the Bear Father’s Day set. A clean and simple card that is hopefully serene and relaxing too.

Hope you are having a relaxing weekend.

My interactive card

Hello peeps,

Interactive cards seem to be surging back in popularity again (do you remember those musical cards, light up cards were popular in the early 80s, oh maybe late 70s). I am trying my hand at a simple interactive card I made for the Color Me Creative Copic challenge this fortnight.

No the challenge is not about making an interactive card but rather about “Kitty and Dog Days” and coloring fur in fun and different ways.

I had lots of fun with coloring my doggy fur – never had much success coloring fur the “hairy” way (you know, the flicking-line method) – it just looks like a spikey mess for me. But I learnt going through Class 5 that there are more ways than that way to give my animal that cuddly and furry look. I used the dabbing-dots method that Suzanne teaches in that class and I much prefer this look than the spikey look. Take a look at my cuddly dog in his interactive glory:

Front and non-eventful view

Surprise - look what's he hiding behind!! Fun fun fun!

Oh I’m so tickled pink with my interactive card and doesn’t he look furry and cuddly too!!

To enter in the challenge, you can use any image you want as long as they are colored with any alcohol markers. Your card must also be newly created.

The winner of this challenge will win a $20 GC to SCACD, courtesy of Suzanne Dean. And when you play along the entire month (just 2 cards), you are also entered into the monthly drawing for the shopping spree at Oozak. How can you beat two prize opportunities – head on over to be inspired and get to coloring.

Is it too early for a Father’s Day card?

Good morning peeps,

I manage to spend more time in my happy place (my crafting space) last night and I finished all of Class 3 at Color Me Creative Classroom! I am loving all the tips and techniques Suzanne is sharing in her class and gosh, if you do your homework (sorry – I’m lacking in that area) – Suzanne will even personally critique your work!

But I did make a card from what I learnt … and here it is:

Love the newsprint paper from Studio Calico and twine is from Doodlebug Designs. Humphrey here is my favorite from Crafter’s Companion and he is colored with Copic Markers:

  • hat and shoes: E31, E33, E35, E37, E71, E74, E50, E53;
  • elephant: C1, C3, C5;
  • jeans: B93, B95, B97;
  • singlet: W1 for highlights only;
  • tie: R24, R27, R29, YG00, YG01, YG03

Now, onto class 5 – I know I can do better with my coloring and I can’t wait to learn more. Check out Suzanne’s classes online or see if she is coming to your town!

Happy New Year!

May 2012 bring all of my online and real life friends all the peace and happiness you deserve! Thank you for being a part of my life.

And with the close of one year, bring new beginnings. I am very proud to announce that I have been invited to join the Flower Soft 2012 Design team.  I get the privilege to design with these talented and well known ladies:

The 2012 Flower Soft Design Team:
Jen Buck {DT coordinator}
Stephanie Lee (that’s me)

Head on over the Flower Soft Blog – each designer will be introduced individually throughout the month and you will get to know us and see our work. I’m excited to get to know my new friends too!

My last post …

for Through The Craftroom Door.

Incidentally, today is also my birthday. I am feeling nostalgic today about the passing of another birthday and also the end of this term. The ladies on the team are warm and friendly and we have a real admiration for each other’s work. Melanie is an exceptionally kind leader. I shall miss being on the team with these ladies. Don’t be stranger in blogland ladies.

Here is my card for Through the Craftroom Door:

Background stamp is from Hero Arts. Twine is from Doodlebug Designs, Flowers are from Prima and the sentiment is a rub-on from Pebbles.

Have a fun day!

The Beauty of CAS!

I was surfing the web looking for inspiration when I stumbled on this blog you have to see – he is a 10 9 year old boy whose passion for his craft matches the quality of his work. (His tutorial is in English on The Scrapcake Blog where he is on the design team and his chatter is just so heartwarming.) It’s truly inspiring for me! (Thanks Kuba for stopping by)

So off I go to make more of those bright and happy CAS (clean and simple) cards that my customers like so much.

Papers, cupcake brads, rub-on flowers are from Doodlebug Designs. Happy Birthday sentiment is from Pebbles Inc.

Flower brads are from Doodlebug. Felted trees are from Pebbles Inc., Sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations and I apologize I don’t remember where the twine is from (it’s from my stash).

Enjoy the cards inspired by 10 year old Kuba.
