This week’s sketch at Paper Craft Planet

Good morning my friends,

Welcome to another sketch challenge this week at PCP, take a peek:

And here is my version:

I decided to go with a conservative sketch and I fished out an older Impression Obsession stamp and some papers from my stash for my card. I’d love to see what you create – either from your stash or something new.

To add your creation to this week’s sketch just add the tag SK091412 when uploading it in your planet photo album.

Impression Obsession Blog Hop …

Half my background stamp collection are from Impression Obsession – actually more like three-quarters. And I have 2 5″ d-ring binders full of them. The cover-a-card collection from Impression Obsession is what I’m referring to – they are just divine … 1 stamp covers the entire card and extra space to spare.

Here is one of my card that I made with I/O Cover-a-card (CAC) … what did I tell ‘ya. It’s more than just a background stamp – it’s an entire scene.

Here is another one of those CAC stamps … just in love with those CAC stamps.

Anyhow, if you want a chance to win $25 to get one of these CAC stamps, head on over to Impression Obsession Blog to participate in the Hop.

Good photography day outside … NO!

Hi there …

It’s a terribly muggy hot day today in MN – perfectly windless with a bright sunshine! What a great day to take photos of my cards. Yet when I tried going out to take a card photo on my deck, some non-existent wind keeps blowing my card over. It’s just too frustrating!

Perhaps I will not be waiting till it’s winter in MN to get my lightbox after all.

Well, here is the card I tried photographing outside to no avail … I did enjoy making the card!

The little children dancing image from Hero Arts is just too happy – it’s called “Dancing with Flowers” and I just love these patterned papers from the new My Mind’s Eye Stella Rose Collection.

And for those who know me, you will know I can’t stop at 1 card. So I made another version of this card using distressed ink instead of pattered paper just to see how it would turn out. I’m not really sure which one I like better, so please give me your feedback. The sentiment was from Impression Obsession Sentiments II. I love how versatile that sentiment set is.

I hope you are having a “dancing in the flowers” kind-a day.

3 patterned paper, 2 buttons, 1 punch & a ribbon …

This is the challenge at The Pink Elephant this week.

I just didn’t realize how difficult it is to make a card with that many elements without it looking like a gaudy and busy mess. But thanks for pushing me beyond my comfort zone … here is my 1st card with so many things squeezed into a tiny little space.

Pumpkin image is from Obsession Impression Peeking Pumpkin. I colored the image using water color pencils. Tag is from Quickutz & a circle punch cut into half.

June Papertrey Blog Hop

This is going to sound crazy – I got up at 3am last night and I thought I should try spray painting glue and adding sparkly sprinkles on it to see if I would get a raised 3D glittery effect. But I guess I couldn’t find glue I could spray paint at that hour so I tried spraying mulberry paper with sparkly ink just to see what kind of effect I’d get.

Here is the result (of course I had to mount it on a card) …

Mulberry paper was sprayed using Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist – Viva Pink, Electric Blue, Black Magic, Glacier, Peach Delight and Olive Vine. The effect was strangely gratifying when the colors melded together to create new colors! Impression Obsession Victorian House image was stamped on Papertrey Ink Stampers Select White Cardstock. I outlined the roof line with Copic Atyou Spica Glitter Pen – Silver and background behind the house was shaded with Copic marker BV0000.

Let me know what you think.

Summer is here …

At least I hope it’s here to stay for a while, given the crazy weather we have been getting in MN.

Over at Crissy’s, she has declared summer too – a summer theme card! There are many things I love about the summers – allergy season from spring is slowing down a little; no need for coats, hats and mitten – thank goodness, when you have to run around the house to put on 2 sets of gloves before leaving the house (sometimes 3 sets when the 1st set comes off before the 2nd set goes on); grass is lush and flowers are blooming, especially the sunflowers … and here is my sunny flower card for Crissy’s challenge.

Background is stamped using Impression Obsession cover-a-card distressed diagonals. Flower image and sentiment are stamped using Stampendous Daisy Thanks Perfectly Clear stamps. The entire card was inked using Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks – Wild Honey and Vintage photo.

Enjoy the warm weather!

Father’s Day Card … with a skirt on

This is the Father’s Day card my husband would be getting this year from his 11/2 yr old daughter and his 5 yr old son.

Making something in my craft room always relaxes me but this is a card that made me think.

Would any self-respecting man like to get this card?? Probably not. But would a dad like to get this card from his little girlie girl who thinks a card should wear a skirt – I know he would.

Then I contemplated even longer and harder whether I should post it on my blog AND submit it for a challenge – my reputation as a card maker/designer is at stake here if I put this out there and call it a masculine card. My kids are thrilled with this card, my husband would be tickled pink to receive it so why shouldn’t I be happy to give it to a man?

So I’m done thinking about this card and here is a shout out to all the craftswomen out there – who cares if your masculine card has some ribbon on it or a fancy flourish … Art should be fun and I love my fun, bordering on ridiculous looking, card.

Enjoy and have a Happy Father’s Day!

Details of the card:

Background was inked with Ranger Distressed Ink – Mustard Seed & Wild Honey. Popcorn the Bear is from Crafter’s Companion & sentiment is from Impression Obsession Clear stamp set – sentiments II. Popcorn the Bear was colored with Copic Markers (E31, E35, E50, E53, R20, Rv11, YG11, YG13, YG17, B21, B24, B29, B00, G03, G05, G07, E07, E37, E71, E74).

They made me do it …

It’s too early for Christmas cards but those gals at The Pink Elephant made me do it. They have a recipe challenge – “Favorite Color Combo, Polka Dots and Crinkle Ribbon”. So here is my favorite color combo with polka dots and crinkle ribbon Christmas card.

The little Dolly stamp is from Impression Obsession and colored using Derwent Watercolor Pencils. Have a fun day, even if it’s not Christmas!

Impression Obsession Challenge …

Good morning everyone!

The Impression Obsession pick your Favorite IO Image will be ending in 2 days (May 11, 2011). Be sure to visit their website to view the Design team’s cards as well as cards that customers submit for the challenge.
I would like to share the card I submitted to the challenge.

Most of the time, I just buy the stamps that catch my eye. Most of the time, they end up being used once and back to the garage sale table. This Impression Obsession stamp “gift of love” is one of the most versatile ones that I use over and over again for many different occasions. It is colored with Derwent watercolor pencils. I also use part of a flourish from Autumn Leaves for background.

Have a great day and wish me luck in the challenge.
