You Deserve a Treat

Hello my online friends,

Crafting is an extension of me – I make cards that reflect my state of mind. This time of the year for me is filled with family, reunions, food and party not just from the holiday celebrations but also with 3 birthdays thrown in as well (both my kids and my own). I’m totally exhausted at this time too needless to say. So when my family ask me what I want for my birthday in 3 weeks, I usually just want down time. My cards reflect that:

These 2 cuties are from Strawberry Kisses collection – Friends. Colored with my trusty Spectrum Noir markers – GB3, GB5, GB7 (dog); BG3, BG5, BG6 (cat) and PP3, PP4, IG4 (cushion). Sentiment is from the SWALK collection – Deserve a Treat stamp set. Ribbons are from May Arts and paper is from Basic Grey.

I hope you get a well deserved treat amidst this holiday season.

Stampendous Floral Challenge

Hello folks,

Maybe you already know this but I have a confession – I love florals. It’s pretty, it’s happy, it’s girly … what’s not to like? Here’s one for ya!

I made this WAY back in March or April for Michael’s Stamptember month in September – but I totally forgot to post it. The Stampendous Jumbo Dahlia was stamped on sticky back canvas and colored with Copic Markers. The canvas was matted with cardstock and a May Arts triple looped twine bow added to the lower half. The entire image panel was then side matted with K & Co tag and then onto the card base.

Florals is also this month’s Stampendous challenge – I know you all have flower stamps, so get working! You don’t have to use Stampendous images but if your flowers come from Stampendous, your entry will count double. Please have your submissions linked to our linky tool below by 11:59pm PDT on October 31, 2012. You may enter as many times as you like.

Stampendous and May Arts Blog Hop

Hello everyone,

Welcome to a whole week of fun filled Stampendous and May Arts inspiration! We are culminating a fantastic week of inspiration with an even more fun-filled, inspirational blog hop! And to celebrate Card Making day … I made a card.

When I first saw this thick and lush double sided ribbon, 2 thoughts came to mind:

  • I had to use both sides of the ribbon and
  • it just had to go with this Santa and his luxurious coat.

I also sprinkled some Stampendous gold embossing enamels on the background. Santa can’t be standing on bare floors. Santa had some Stampendous white flock on his coat too and he was colored with Copic markers. Patterned paper is from Authentique and buttons from Momenta.

Check out these fabulous projects from the Stampendous team – you don’t want to miss this hop!

Appley Dapply

Hello everyone!

Welcome to another Crafter’s Companion post. How could it be close to 80 degrees at the beginning of this week and almost 50 degrees at the end of this week (at least in MN)?? Seriously, this is what I feel right now … ready to be wrapped up and heading somewhere warm.

I decided to do a non-stamped card this week – did you know Crafter’s Companion makes card toppers too. A Brand New set of 8 papercrafting kit from Beatrix Potter is just out – click here to see the whole range! I used some fabric paper from DCWV for the card background and mat and ribbon is from May Arts.

Have an Appley Dapply day and stay warm!

Fun with Stampendous and May Arts

Hello folks,

Welcome to a whole week of fun filled Stampendous and May Arts inspiration! A week of features from one of the best stamps companies around and the most amazing ribbons in town – how could you go wrong?

I used that stamp and ribbon on my layout today:

I had so much fun with the lacey trims on my Cling Ruffled Corset and on the layout border. The Corset will be available by the end of October to a store near you. Stickers are from Momenta and Deja Views.

Hop on along to my Stampendous team mates to see what creative fun ways they are using their stamps and ribbons!

Moments in Time Boy Sports

Hello everyone!

I’m somewhat recovered from my vacation and I can’t believe school is starting in 2 weeks – I’m not ready! My little kiddo is starting 1st grade. I anticipate making many of such nostalgic sports cards in the years ahead and this is my 1st one and I love how it turned out.

This Moments in Time Boy Sport card topper is a new one from Flower Soft. I also used a new Flower Soft color – Moss Green – for the ground. Papers are from American Crafts, Twine is from May Arts and that sentiment is from Flourishes. Don’t forget to check out my team mates blog for more masculine card inspiration.

Another Masculine card

Hello everyone,

I notice that lately, I’ve been doing a lot of these masculine cards – it’s much easier after a few go-rounds. This is also the theme for the monthly DT challenge at Gourmet Rubber Stamps.

This image is from Gourmet Rubber Stamps - such a cool vintage classic car. Except I’m not good at vintage cards so I adapted and went with a modern clean and simple card. I love how the chicken wire template I had used to sponge the left side of the card looks like tire skid marks – really unintentional. Ribbon is from May Arts and those cool brads – sorry, it’s really old from my craft supplies.

Take a look at some of the masculine cards the talented ladies have created:

Popcorn the Bear

Hi folks,

It’s time for another Friday Crafter’s Companion post. As you may have noticed, Crafter’s Companion has had weekly new stamp releases for a couple of months now. I’ve been looking forward to working with some very cute existing Crafter’s Companion stamps and this week I’m showcasing my timeless favorite – Popcorn the Bear.

I’ve colored Popcorn using Spectrum Noir Markers (GB8, EB7, TN7) – I usually play it safe by blending my furry animal and texturing it with colorless blender. Today I wanted to try just giving him “rougher” uncombed fur and just flicked the colors (without blending) in the direction of hair grown – at least what I thought the direction of hair growth on a bear should be. That unique ribbon is from May Arts and my “grass” is just trimmed using Martha Stewart fringe scissors.

This image is so versatile – you could also use it for a Mother’s Day card. That’s what I thought when I made it yesterday but I’d already send out my Mother’s Day cards so it became a Thank You Card instead.

Humphrey Loves You!

Good morning everyone!

Welcome to another Friday’s Crafter’s Companion post. I am showcasing today – one of my favorite Crafter’s Companion character – Humphrey. This new collection is just released this week. Meet Baby Humphrey!

I decided to use a different sentiment than what comes with the set since Mother’s and Father’s day is coming right up and this would make such an appropriate card from a child to a parent.

Baby Humphrey was colored using Spectrum Noir Markers – IG1, IG2, IG4, PP3, PP4, PP5, CT1, CT3, LV2). My background paper is from American Crafts, the scallop border die is from Papertrey Ink and the ribbon is from May Arts.

I’m sure you will enjoy this new Humphrey Collection! Happy Shopping!

Lynell sent over some amazing products from Dreamweavers Stencils that I have never used before – on this card, the pearlescent Embossing Paste and the Rose colored mica f/x irridescent powder and she also sent that gorgeous flourish stencil as well. Thanks so much Lynell. I have a new found love – brass stencils and I’m definately going to try out that paste again. My butterfly is from Stampendous. I love the dark ink line of this stamp – such a bold look and makes it super easy to fussy cut out as well.

This month, in honor of Earth Day, we are challenging ourselves (and you) to make something that uses product(s) that are recycled, re-purposed, or reused in some way. The possibilities are endless! Snazz up a household item and turn it into something beautiful, use something unexpected on your card, or even just use up some scraps you’ve had in your stash forever (that’s recycling, right?!?)

- my Stampendous butterfly was die cut and colored and stickled for another card but I discovered it was too big so it’s been sitting on my craft table waiting for another opportunity to be used. Come join in our challenge.

Don’t forget – we want YOU to play along with is!  You have until Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:59 PM EST to add your direct link to our collection at the end of this post (or on the Stampendous blog).  You do not have to use Stampendous products, but we sure love it when you do!  As an extra incentive for playing along, one lucky crafter (drawn at random) will receive this fabulous Mother’s Love Perfectly Clear Stamp Set.  Available in stores now, it will be on the website for purchase soon!

Due to shipping restrictions, the winner must have a US address. We hope you have a chance to play along with us (you an enter as many times as you’d like!) this month…Happy Crafting!

Pink, purple butterflies .. fly fly fly

Good morning folks…

All March long, I have this song stuck in my head all day long … all because I heard it in my daughter’s toddler class week after week.

It was finally gone about a week ago but I guess it’s back again with this new Flower Soft challenge – use the Butterfly kit to make a card. Maybe I might have some mental company if I shared the song … bwahahahaa.

Here is my butterfly card:

I used the Die cut dimensions Butterflies kit for this one. I love these toppers – for reasons obvious to me – they make quick and beautiful cards with dimensional effects without any effort at all! It really allows me the leeway to playing with colors without worrying about the image.

Here’s a list of my other Design Team members for more inspiration:

We would love for you to join us for this challenge – simply add your creation to the comments section of the challenge post on the Flower Soft blog. If you upload your creation to SCS, please use the keyword FSC43 and flowersoft so we will be able to find you. The prize for this challenge is the Diecut Dimension Card Kit.

I am addicted to so many things on this card – the beautiful bird stamp, the soft blue fragments and glitter from Stampendous, the soft, flowing, repetitive background from Dreamweaver Stencils, that super sweet patterned paper from My Mind’s eye and that delicious May Arts ribbon. Thanks Laura for including that in my package. Dreamweaver and Stampendous totally works on a card without much effort and pair them with some pretty papers and ribbon and you get my style!

Anything but Square and Rectangle

Hello everyone,

Shaped cards are unique and fun to make. Usually, I use a rectangle card base and cut out a bordered edge. But lately, I’ve been shaping all edges of the card – circle, triangle, cupcake shape. It’s feels fun and adventurous to make but it’s really a pain to photograph – it just wouldn’t stand!! Have you tried making a circle card stand without it rolling away?

Well, here is the challenge at Tuesday Throwdown – make a shaped card! I was determined to make a “real” shaped card – cut on all sides not just a shaped bottom edge.

Here is my card:

The onesie shape is actually a die from Papertrey Ink and the cute lil’ giraffe is from Imaginisce. I look at this little baby shaped onsie and I feel very nostalgic because my little Emma wouldn’t be in her onsie much longer.

The winner of this week’s shaped card challenge will get a prize from Catherine Pooler Stampin’ Up.

Have a great week and if you have a tip for me to photograph a circle card, please let me know.
