Tart & Spice

Hello there..

Every so often, I pull out an older stamp set just because I still like it and I feel bad and it’s sitting there neglected and unused.

Here is one I love so much – Gourmet Rubber Stamps Oct 2011 Diner Set:

and this is what I made:

Stamps: Gourmet Rubber Stamps, Pumpkin Die: Spellbinders

Love bringing new life to the not so new things.

Pink, purple butterflies .. fly fly fly

Good morning folks…

All March long, I have this song stuck in my head all day long … all because I heard it in my daughter’s toddler class week after week.

It was finally gone about a week ago but I guess it’s back again with this new Flower Soft challenge – use the Butterfly kit to make a card. Maybe I might have some mental company if I shared the song … bwahahahaa.

Here is my butterfly card:

I used the Die cut dimensions Butterflies kit for this one. I love these toppers – for reasons obvious to me – they make quick and beautiful cards with dimensional effects without any effort at all! It really allows me the leeway to playing with colors without worrying about the image.

Here’s a list of my other Design Team members for more inspiration:

We would love for you to join us for this challenge – simply add your creation to the comments section of the challenge post on the Flower Soft blog. If you upload your creation to SCS, please use the keyword FSC43 and flowersoft so we will be able to find you. The prize for this challenge is the Diecut Dimension Card Kit.

My Paper Cone Wreath

Well hello everyone,

I hope you are all well – I just noticed that in less than a month, I will be celebrating my 1 year blogoversary! How time flies – I can’t believe I have been blogging for 1 year already. Stay tune for some blog candy giveaway … in the mean time,

I’ve been busy the last couple of weeks and this is what I’ve been doing …

… making paper cones (about 75 of them – roughly half of them in 3″ squares and half in 4″ squares).

I rolled them on the diagonal into paper cones – adhering the larger cones on the outer ring of the wire wreath and the smaller ones on the inner ring with a hot glue gun. I  glued flowers with button center at the base of the cones to hide any seams and gaps on the wreath. Added the “welcome” greeting on red burlap and spellbinders die and adhere them on 1/8″ wooden dowels. All papers were made from Momenta Chloe’s Garden Pyramid paper pack - I used about 6 different double-sided sheet of patterned paper and there was still more left in the stack! That stack really goes a long way!

Glad I got my wreath done just in time for Spring!

Cardabilities reveal for March 30 and my last one.

Welcome to another Cardabilities reveal and this is my last post with Cardabilities after 2 lovely terms working with Karan’s sketches. (that’s the term extention limit)

I thoroughly enjoyed the community of Cardabilities and the ladies I designed with are superb talented and a blast to get to know. Thank you Karan for giving me the opportunity – not once but twice. You are one talented artist and I appreciate your support!

Well, here is the sketch:

And here is my take:

I love how this card turned out – the doodling around the edge, the pattern on the rosette, the colors use. I hope you find yourself inspired to play along too. I know I will be back to play along too.

World’s Best Dad

Hello everyone!

It’s time for a Crafter’s Companion new release! And I think it’s the best yet – the Beatrix Potter collection!!I grew up reading all about Peter Rabbit, his cousin Benjamin Bunny (and his dad also goes by the same name), Mr Jeremy Fish and Timothy Tippytoes! Who is a better dad than Benjamin Bunny!

Don’t worry – Father’s Day is on 17th of June this year and I am mighty early for a Father’s Day card. It’s only because I have my handmade card business that I have to prepare inventory for in time for June sales.

Well here is Benjamin Bunny munching away on some veggie looking all dapper in his signature blue coat.

He was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers. I was concerned of using the “wrong” shade for such a recognizable character, you know, like coloring the American flag a wrong shade of red and blue; but I quickly remembered that there is nothing to fret – there is a list of resources on my Spectrum Noir instructional DVD that lists all the colors for the Crafter’s Companion characters. Phew!

Here are the colors I used: GB10, EB2. EB1 for the bunny himself and TB3, TB2 and CT3 for his coat. (the instructional DVD lists TB4 instead of TB3 for his coat – I didn’t have that shade so I just layered on TB3 a little more)

Have fun with your Spectrum Noir markers – they are a breeze to use.

Cuddly Critters

Hello everyone,

Today is my last post for The Pixie Cottage – my term with them has come to an end and Michelle has decided to take  a break for the summer (i.e. not renewing any terms). Thank you for the opportunity to join this fabulous team for the last half a yr! I had a great time getting to know you fine ladies and working with the incredibly talented design team.

Without further ado, here is my card today that would fit in perfectly with the current challenge over at The Pixie Cottage.

The challenge this week is to create a card using cuddly critters and/or use the sketch below:

Well, I might just have a weakness for cuddly critters and I used this cute little one called Gone Fishing from Michelle’s Scrapbooking and More.

This little cutie was colored using Copic Markers. Papers are from Lilybee Designs.

Come join in the fun and win 2 stamps of your choice from The Pixie Cottage!

May I have your support?

Cardabilities Reveal – March 15

Good morning Peeps!

Welcome to another Cardabilities reveal. I know you’ve been waiting for this …

Here’s the mission:

Here’s the inspiration:

Go forth and conquer!

Cardabilities Reveal for Febuary 15

Welcome to another Cardabilities reveal.

I hope you all had a fun and romantic Valentine’s Day. And if you didn’t, I always tell myself – it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

And with all the love talk, here is the sketch for this reveal:

And here is my take:

I love that sentiment from Stampendous! So sweet and to the point. The border is a die from Spellbinders. Ribbon is from Offray and paper is from My Mind’s Eye.

I hope you find yourself inspired to play along too.

Home Decor challenge!!

Good morning everyone!

Can you use stamps on home decor projects? Why yes of course!!Everyone is stamping everything these days – so here is the challenge at Wags n Whiskers (WnW). Make a non-card home decoration item!

Well, one random participant will win a Free Wags ‘n Whiskers Rubber stamp! You don’t need to use a WnW image on your project to enter the challenge, but if you do, you will be entered into a 2nd drawing for a Free Wags ‘n Whiskers Digital Stamp!! Two chances to win!! If you are in need of a WnW design, click here for Rubber stamps, and here for Digis!

Here’s my home deco project:

Here’s a close up of the lovely angel from Wags n Whiskers Rhiannon.

The foliage are diecuts from Spellbinders foliage dies. The wreath was made using folded red burlap – lots of it. Here is the tutorial for it. I used the same size wreath form but I doubled the amount of burlap used – I like my wreath to be big and full because I think a skimpy, skinny wreath is kinda sad.

Ya – Suzanne – this was the red burlap wreath I was intending to make for your Through The Craftroom Door Christmas edition – I just finished it (in Feburary!!) I guess I could use it for Valentines Day too!

Last but not least, today is also my last post with Wags n Whiskers. Thanks for having me on the team! I enjoyed getting to know you all ladies and working with you. Good luck everyone!

White on white at Wags n Whiskers

Hi y’all,

The challenge this week at Wags n Whiskers (WnW) is White on White – no, for a moment there I thought white on white was also WnW (it’s WoW – I know, I’m probably making these acronyoms up).

I love how crisp and elegant white on white can look. But gosh, I have a difficult time photographing white on a white background without it looking washed out.

I used the cute Gemma and Bella Spring Fun from Wags n Whiskers. There is one with a dog on it too – Furry Friends. Too cute!

Anyhow, one random participant will win a Free Wags ‘n Whiskers Rubber stamp!

Have fun with your WoW at WnW!! (ha – had to put that somewhere)

Party Animal Resting …

Hello everyone,

I’m glad to be posting again for Crafter’s Companion – this time as a member of the Crafter’s Companion 2012 design team. For my new readers, I was guest designer for the month of December and I enjoyed working with this team so much, Denise and Trena invited me back as part of the regular crew!  Thanks for the opportunity ladies.

This week, I get to work with the newest release, Strawberry Kisses. Such stink’in cute little kitten images – no surprise though if you have seen Popcorn the Bear, Humpfrey the elephant and SWALK – those are my favorite Crafter’s Companion images, but how could you go wrong with any Crafter’s Companion’s images if you are after cute images!!

Well here is my card:

That’s how I felt after our New Years Eve party. This Party Animal image is amazing and oh so fun to color. This is such a super easy card to make – I colored her using alcohol based markers with my light source primarily from the front of her shoe and adhere her to the card base. Then I framed her using a popped up negative diecut and embellished her with some twine.

Check out more Strawberry Kisses inspiration from the rest of my design team over the next few days! You can buy them from Crafter’s Companion today!

Just because …

I did this card just because I felt like it.

I’ve been watching the class 3 video at Suzanne Dean’s Color Me Creative Classroom and it has just given me so much mojo to color and make cards. This is a copic coloring class that gives you tips and techniques on coloring various objects and people, quite different from your Copic certification course. There is so many things you learn from that class I don’t even know where to beginning telling you – except to direct you to the class topics. My biggest take away, since I have no fine arts background, is where to highlight my objects making it more realistic looking!

The latest release is Class 5 – even more tips and techniques – I can’t wait to begin!! Oh wait, and there is a holiday special going on now till Jan 5, 2012 … please go check it out. You don’t want to miss this.

A Special Someone?

Hello peeps!!

This is a week of special celebration for me. My little Shawn is turning 6 today! Happy Birthday Sweetheart!! How time flies – I remember the day I brought him home from the hospital when he was just 2 days old. I am thrilled he is 6 but I’m also reminded that I am also 6 years older since that day – it doesn’t help that my own birthday is in 2 days too. But it’s all good – older but hopefully wiser. (I’m offering a birthday blog candy right now too – don’t forget to sign up)

Anyhow, today is a new challenge at The Pixie Cottage – Make a card for “Somebody Special” and/or make a card using the sketch below:

Here is my card (using both theme and sketch):

I used The Pixie Cottage stamp “To You from Us” from Michelle’s Scrapbooking and More. They are just too adorable these 2 little kittens. DP is from Authentique Papers. Flowers are from Kaiser Craft. So now it’s your turn to go and create and come back and share with us. The randomly picked winner of their choice of two fabulous Pixie Cottage stamps.

Happy Creating and Merry Christmas!

Crafter’s Companion no image card

Hi all,

I have another post for Crafter’s Companion this month of December. What struck me as I was looking at all the projects on the Crafter’s Companion challenge blog was that there are no cards with only sentiment on it – not 1 that I saw, nah dah!

And for those of you who know me, know that I need to buck that trend and take on a challenge. I wasn’t sure if a company that made cute image stamps could also make sentiment stamps well enough to hold it’s own. So I made a card with just 1 Crafter’s Companion sentiment from the Popcorn the Bear Someone Special stamp set.

Here it is:

If I may say so, I loved how it turned out. The diecuts were all various Spellbinders dies, pearls were Viva Decor Pearl Pen, embossed background is an embossing folder from Sizzix and my sparkly glitter is from Stampendous. I actually also spritz my background with Tattered Angel Glimmer Mists but the shine didn’t quite come through on the photo (only the color did)

You still have time to use any Crafter’s Companion stamp (sentiment or image) to join us in this month’s Sparkle Challenge.

Me, my mom and my baby.

Some of you may know that I started out as a scrapbooker first, way before card making ever came into the picture. However, I don’t share as much layouts as I’d like – they just seem a lot more personal to me when there are pictures of my family and journalling on it.I plan to share more because I enjoy making them (such a bigger surface area to play with) and it also helps you get to know me better.

Anyhow, here is a layout I recently made for my daughter’s baby album that I’m happy to share – the Cling Jumbo Hydrangea was just calling out to be used on this layout and I love how it pops, being in a color totally different from the rest of the layout.

My layout is will also showcase on the Stampendous Blog tomorrow. You will see a detailed supplies list and instructions listed there. But here is a close up of the hydrangea.

I colored it with Copic Markers and lightly sprayed and dribbled it with Tsukineko goosebump for texture. I also lightly sanded the embossed Core’dination cardstock for a distressed look. To add some dimension and interest, I adhere a white doily and only parts of the leaves. I love making layouts.

Oh and if you regularly follow my blog, you will have read that my daughter just celebrated her 2nd birthday during Thanksgiving week – yikes, that’s how far behind I am.

Snow Angels

Welcome everyone …

Are you having snow yet? (at least for my friends in the northern hemisphere). Well, we are – and quite appropriately, Wags ‘n Whiskers (WnW) is having a Snow Angel Themed challenge this week – make a card using an angelic image.

One random participant will win a Free Wags ‘n Whiskers Rubber stamp!

Here is my snow angel:

My Favorite Color Combo

Welcome again to another Tuesday Throwdown challenge,

Today’s challenge is to make a card using my favorite color combo and my go-to colors are kraft and red, with a pop of green. Not any green – lime green. I love how trendy lime green is against a conservative kraft and red background. And not too much of it – too much lime green makes me nauseous, just a smidgen is the right amount.

So here is my kraft and red card with a dash of lime green:

My limegreen butterfly is from Jillibean Soup. Die cut is from Spellbinders. Embossing Folder is from Lifestyle Crafts.

Show us your fav. color combo and win some Stitchy Bear Stamps.

White space is good

Good morning friends,

I have always like my one layer card – less is more is a very powerful concept for me. However, my new Spellbinders Fancy Tag came on the mail yesterday when I was knee deep in kindergarten homework, design team assignments, PTO work, housework … you get the point.

I just had to try out my new Tags but didn’t have time to go into a complicated card. I also needed to make an extra card for Through the Craftroom Door. So I did the best of both – use my tag to make a CAS card for Through the Craftroom Door.

Here it is:

If I may toot my own hoot, I LOVE how it turned out!! So simple, yet with a touch of elegance. I’m planning to make more of this card – but perhaps, I will add a touch of pearl on both ends of my tag.

Have a relaxing day everyone.
